Advanced Practice (PMHNP)

Do you live in a rural area? Are you a veteran or recently transitioning out of the military? Are you frustrated by a lack of access to behavioral health care?

Our practice is located in the beautiful Colorado mountains about 1 hour from the VA in Aurora. We are a group of military-friendly psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) who are also accredited to provide community care for those with VA benefits. However, you do not need to be connected to the VA at all to receive our services.

So why a PMHNP?

Did you know that PMHNPs in Colorado have full scope of practice and can assess, diagnose, prescribe medication for, and treat, mental health conditions like PTSD or depression?

In rural areas PMHNP care has been shown to improve health outcomes such as increased service provision to vulnerable and rural populations, and with that associated cost savings, it has also been shown to demonstrate improved self-reported mental health among patients, and decreased mental health–related mortality.

Many veterans can feel a loss of identity and sense of belonging when they are isolated from the military or other veterans. Connecting with our services can start you off on a journey of adjustment to change, finding a renewed sense of purpose and dealing with grief that often accompanies major life change.

PMHNPs improve access to psychiatric emergency, inpatient, and outpatient services. They are experts in integrative care and preventative interventions. Living in a rural area these skills are amplified by a strengths-based understanding of rural living.

We can provide the best evidence-based treatments for PTSD such as EMDR and CBT, along with other interventions such as written exposure therapy. We are focused on post-traumatic growth and are sensitive to the complexities military service can bring.

So, if you need behavioral health services contact our practice or drop in to see us. We are happy to discuss your options, including telehealth, with us.
