Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Essentials

CU College of Nursing DNP program requires that students meet the DNP Essentials. These eight Essentials are developed by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) to provide a competency framework for the practice-focused terminal degree in nursing. A DNP ensures innovative, expert nurses who thrive as expert clinical leaders and strive to improve evidence-based practice outcomes using scholarship, technology, clinical prevention, health equity principles and transformational change. My program is the Veteran and Military Healthcare Leadership DNP. As a synthesis of my practice-based doctoral work my DNP project is 'Enhancing Sense of Belonging as a Suicide Prevention Strategy for Health Profession Student Veterans'. I outline below how I meet these DNP requirements and specific competencies by providing three examples of my academic work for each DNP Essential.
